Projects

Projects are an important concept in GTD: "A Project is an outcome that takes more than one next action to achieve". You can use projects in What's Next to collect all next actions that are related to one particular outcome.

Don't think of projects as work-related. If you do, you are missing out on one of the most powerful ideas in GTD - that everything you need to do should be in your trusted system.

Here are some examples. These are real projects that we currently have in our active list:

  • What's Next development
  • Get fit
  • Germany holiday
  • Get Things Done

Creating Projects

Creating a new project is a simple matter. Click the New Project icon New Project and enter the name for the new project. Project names must be unique. You can change the project name later on the project page by clicking on the project name.

When you delete a project, all actions associated with that project will be deleted as well! But don't worry, What's Next will ask youfor confirmation before you make a horrible mistake.

Project Wikis

On the project details page, you'll find a link to the wiki for the project. These wikis are very useful when you are planning a project or are collecting additional information concerning the project that does not fit anywhere else.

Click the wiki link (or press w) and the wiki page for the project will open. You can create new wiki pages by simply adding a link like so: [Link name](link url). If you use a single word for the link url, What's Next assumes that you want to create a new wiki page.

You can use markdown syntax to make your wiki pages more interesting.
